Jelly Roll surprised fans in Detroit with a new song during a concert.

He invited Madeline Merlot on  stage to perform a song she  wasn't credited for.

Merlot, known from NBC's  Songland, took the lead on the second verse.

Jelly Roll previewed a new rock  track called "Liar" for his  upcoming album.

Despite a rocky start, Jelly Roll  and his band powered through  the new song.

He encouraged fans to share  videos of the performance online.

The concert also featured hits  like "Dead Man Walking" and a  tribute to Toby Keith.

It served as a prelude to Jelly Roll Stagecoach festival appearance.

He has upcoming tour dates scheduled through October.
